How does CBD work?
To sum up a lot of research very quickly, Cannabidiol (CBD) is amongst over 100 different Cannabinoids that are extracted from agricultural hemp. This cannabinoid does not contain the same psychoactive compounds that give the “high” effect that is in THC. Cannabinoids are beneficial to us because our bodies already make them. The human body has an Endocannabinoid System and already produces cannabinoids daily, it allows CBD to enter our body through the bloodstream. There are two receptors, CB1 and CB2, that are activated by CBD and bind certain G-coupled protein receptors. There are also non-cannabinoid receptors that are activated by CBD such as, serotonin, orphan, Vanilloid and nuclear receptors. These activations are the cause of anti-anxiety and anti-inflammatory.
When cannabinoids enter the bloodstream, these receptors are able to create signals within our body and improve overall homeostasis.
It is important that the CB1 receptor predominantly works with G-coupled protein receptors because they are what detects molecules outside of the cell and activate internal signals that lead to ultimate cellular growth! In other words, they detect the failing systems in our body and send signals the cannabinoids to aid. According to research, G protein-coupled receptors are the target of 34% of all modern medicinal drugs and are hard to get in your daily diet. Therefore, by supplementing your daily diet with CBD, you are able to enhance the endocannabinoid receptors inside the body in a non-toxic way and can balance systems in the human brain and body.
